Deeply penetrating, clear oil-based timber oil|Can overcoat existing mineral oil coatings|24hr recoat time|Intergrain Universal‚Ñ¢ Timber Oil is an oil-based coating designed to protect and nourish all timber species from within. The deeply penetrating, clear finish will never flake, blister or peel and helps prevent warping, cupping and splitting.Universal‚Ñ¢ Timber Oil will allow the timber to gradually fade over time to a natural grey or can be tinted using Intergrain Colour Additive for a longer lasting finish. Specially formulated to coat over existing mineral oil coatings, Universal‚Ñ¢ Timber Oil also creates an unlocked system, enabling water based or oil based coatings to be applied over the top in future.PreparationNew bare timber, new pre-oiled timber (including mineral oil), rejuvenate bare grey/weathered:For best results, we recommend cleaning timber with Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner to ensure the surface is free from debris, droppings and stains.Maintain bare grey/weathered timber:Do not use a timber cleaner, ensure the surface is clean by washing with water.Existing coating in poor condition:Remove coating by using a combination of Intergrain ultraprep tannin and oil remover and power washing. Then clean with Intergrain ultraprep timber cleaner.Paints, varnishes or coatings in varied conditions:Paints, varnishes or coatings that have deteriorated unevenly, remove all existing coating by using a coatings stripper or sanding back to bare timber. Then clean with Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner.Important: If mould is present or if timber is in a mould prone area, use Intergrain UltraPrep Mould Killer to remove surface mould effectively as the first step of preparing the timber for coating.ApplicationFor best performance, apply at least 1 coat to all sides of the timber prior to installation.Remove excess water from the surface and allow timber to thoroughly dry before coating.Stir Intergrain Universal Timber Oil thoroughly before and during use with a flat blade stirrer.OptionalFor a longer-lasting finish, add Intergrain Colour Additive to Intergrain Universal Timber Oil in your selected colour, at the ratios recommended on back of pack. Stir thoroughly to incorporate colour evenly. When using two different tinted cans of the same colour, it is recommended that the product be mixed together in the same container.Apply Intergrain Universal Timber Oil generously using the Intergrain Deckbrush (recommended), flat deck applicator, paintbrush, roller or spray (air-assisted airless or airless). Back brush to help even penetration. Ensure edges and end grain are fully coated.Allow oil to penetrate for 30-60 minutes before wiping off any excess with a dry applicator or cloth. Allow to dry for 24 hours, then apply a second coat following same application process as first coat.Important: All timber is required to be free from dust, mould and site contaminants prior to coating. Follow all relevant product label instructions when using Intergrain products.Maintenance time varies widely according to many factors including the age and porosity of the wood, species, situation and exposure to the weather.Intergrain Universal Timber Oil should be reapplied when the timber has lost its water resistance and water is soaking into the timber. We recommend routine maintenance inspections every 6 months to ensure the timber is still protected from water.
