This versatile product can also be used as a high-strength cleaner. On new timber, it effectively removes dirt, tannins, natural oils, and other contaminants from the timber surface, ensuring it is ready for coating.
UltraPrep Tannin & Oil Remover is low in odor and highly efficient in its application. To prepare the timber, start by removing surface dirt through sweeping or washing down with water. Shake the product thoroughly before use. Wet the timber surfaces to be cleaned with water, then apply the remover undiluted using a stiff bristle brush, broom, or spray. Clean complete sections at one time to avoid patchy results. Note that the product is very slippery, so take care when walking on treated surfaces. Leave the remover on the timber for 10–15 minutes, ensuring it remains damp throughout this period. For best results, apply the remover to cool surfaces out of direct sunlight to prevent it from drying on the timber.
Scrub the timber vigorously with a stiff broom, avoiding the use of wire brushes. Rinse off exterior surfaces thoroughly using maximum pressure from a garden hose or a high-pressure water cleaner, with the latter being recommended for optimal results. It is crucial to thoroughly remove the remover to prevent timber discoloration under clear finishes. If stubborn areas remain, repeat the application as per the instructions. After rinsing, clean the timber with UltraPrep Timber Cleaner following the label instructions. Note that some timber species may appear darker after cleaning with the remover, but the timber cleaner will restore brightness. Allow the timber to dry thoroughly before applying further products.
