Sand only in the direction of the grain. The clear coating used to seal the stain may also have some effect on the final color. Stir thoroughly with a broad flat paddle until the pigment is mixed in and the color is uniform. Keep well stirred during use. If using more than one can, mix all cans together in a larger container to ensure color uniformity.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e2. Apply with a good quality brush, roller, or lint-free rag and work the stain evenly into the grain.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e3. Allow to set for 1 – 5 minutes then rub with a clean soft cloth using a circular motion to remove any excess stain and produce an even-colored surface. The intensity of the color will depend on the porosity of the timber and the length of time before the stain is wiped off.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e4. Once water repellency has diminished, re-apply the existing topcoat as per label instructions.
